The Head of Commodity Management will lead Cepheid’s Solna Commodity Business Management team for both direct and indirect spend, reporting to the Global Purchasing Director. In this role, the Head of Commodity Management will work closely with supply chain, operations, quality, and engineering/R&D to establish and implement the most efficient and effective commodity strategies. This role is accountable for supplier account management and performance, including on time delivery, quality, cost, lead time, and capacity.

The position is expected to embrace and lead through Danaher Business System practices (Lean/Six Sigma) and thrive in a cross-functional, matrix environment where continuous improvement is the cultural norm. The Head of Commodity Management must be comfortable leading through influence and be a capable communicator inside the company and with external partners.

This position is part of the Procurement department and will be located in Solna. At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead and develop a team of Commodity Business Managers, growing and mentoring them to support a multi-billion-dollar business.
  • Develop, align, and implement sourcing strategies for the commodities assigned by focusing on lowest total cost of ownership and flexibility through supplier segmentation, development, and management.
  • Work closely with the team in the US to ensure alignment on strategic goals.
  • Responsible for supplier account management on behalf of Cepheid, including contracts, key negotiations, and supplier performance management.
  • Ensure strong supplier performance towards objectives (delivery, quality, cost, lead time, and capacity)
  • Monitor internal forecasts as well as external supplier and market trends to identify and mitigate risks for continuity of supplier and capacity growth objectives.
  • Drive resolution to systemic supply chain issues affecting quality, cost, delivery or lead-time, which may include engagement with sub-tiers in the supply chain.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • BS or BA degree, preferably in Life Science, Engineering or Business discipline
  • 10+ years in procurement, strategic sourcing, and/or commodity management role
  • 5+ years in people management position
  • 5+ years contract negotiation experience and strong understanding of corporate contracts
  • 5+ years international business experience
  • Experience in Lean Six Sigma or similar
  • Strong business acumen
  • Exceptional written and verbal skills in both Swedish and English

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • MBA degree
  • Experience in life science, pharmaceutical, medical device or diagnostics industry
  • Experience with OEM chemicals and reagents (or packaging & plastics)
