At To The Sky, we are working on an unannounced AA, stylized 3rd person action/adventure game. Developing in Unreal Engine, we are exploring new ways of building engaging gameplay and wonderful worlds to explore.

The game is in the mid days of development and you will be joining us in an exciting and influential phase

In your role as a Gameplay Designer, you are responsible for prototyping, building, and tweaking gameplay elements to realize the design direction of the game in Unreal Engine 5.

We are looking for a designer who is self-motivated, driven, and able to act on the direction set by department leaders.

You are just as confident working with sketches, diagrams, and spreadsheets as you are with taking in-engine prototypes of your work all the way to shipping status.

You are communicative and passionate, able to both take and professionally deliver critique and feedback.

Since we are a small studio, you are a bit of a generalist and have passion and experience in several aspects of game design.

General Responsibilities

Content creation

  • Build engaging gameplay scenarios out of existing game assets.

  • Expand on existing gameplay elements/systems.

  • Block out and craft levels and environments suitable for gameplay.

Gameplay element design

  • Flesh out the designs of game systems based on design direction.

  • Build gameplay systems from prototype to polished and shippable.

Tuning and Balancing

  • Tweak and fine-tune gameplay systems

  • Combat encounters and enemy behavior

  • Game economy

Desired Experience & Traits

2+ years of experience in Unreal Engine (or a similar caliber game engine).

2+ years of experience in game design, preferably from concept to shipped product

At least 1 AA or AAA game shipped as a Game Designer

Hands-on experience within Unreal and usage of blueprints, behavior trees, etc.

Remote work

As a member of the core team, being able to consistently work from our Gothenburg office is a huge plus. We feel that in the formative stage of game development, being able to share a physical space is crucial for creativity and communication. That said we are flexible in the long term and wish to find a solution that fits both development and your lifestyle.

Who we are

To The Sky was founded in Sept 2021 and has its main office in Gothenburg, Sweden.

We develop games for PC and console using Unreal Engine 5 to power our ambitions. But we are not all about development, building a great studio culture and workplace is core to who we are and what we want to achieve.

As a team, we stem from various AAA backgrounds and joined together to create the kinds of games we would love to play. We are currently working on an action/adventure title in its mid stages.
