Head of Engineering

About the role

As the Head of Engineering, your main duties will include leading our Engineering Managers who oversee our software engineers in the Nordic region, the UK, and the US. You will focus on developing and sustaining our engineering talent, to ensure that Odevo consistently produces high-quality software products and services on time and within budget. You will also support the engineering organization in providing exceptional leadership throughout the employee lifecycle, actively contributing to enhancing every phase of the employee journey.

Our global product development team is undergoing considerable growth, currently consisting of a team of 115 highly skilled professionals working on platforms for our three large markets. You will report directly to the CTO and work alongside our senior leadership in and outside of the product engineering organisation, together we will strive to cultivate a culture of innovation and teamwork.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leadership and Mentoring: Guide Engineering Managers in building a top-tier Engineering organization, enhancing teamwork and performance.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Collaborate with Product, Delivery, Productivity and other heads to align engineering efforts with organizational objectives.
  • Development Practices Oversight: Ensure engineering teams adhere to best practices for developing high-quality software products and services.
  • Talent Development: Identify and grow talent within the engineering teams, emphasizing retention and professional growth.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Foster teamwork across departments to meet shared goals and ensure timely delivery of engineering solutions.
  • AI and Machine Learning: Prioritize AI use cases to enhance software development processes and product capabilities.
  • Strategic Leadership: Lead engineering strategies that support long-term goals, including capacity planning and skills development.
  • Team Management: Oversee Engineering Managers to ensure effective team management and professional development, optimizing performance across both remote and hybrid work settings.
  • Resource Allocation: Manage resources strategically to maintain balanced teams equipped with necessary skills, tools, and quality focus, ensuring high-quality output and efficiency.
  • Risk Management: Identify and address technical risks in the development lifecycle, planning mitigation strategies to avoid delays and other issues.

Who you are

You are a coaching leader with the ability to inspire, mentor and lead diverse teams of engineers. Collaboration is a key aspect of our organization, and we are looking for someone who can thrive while working harmoniously across departments and engaging with stakeholders at all levels. You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex ideas and concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Furthermore, experience in a fast-paced, high-growth environment will be highly regarded, as it demonstrates the ability to thrive in dynamic settings.


  • Leadership Experience: Over 15 years in software engineering, including a decade in leadership roles, directing teams across global markets to foster innovation and teamwork.
  • Strategic and Technical Expertise: Extensive knowledge in software development methodologies, such as agile and DevOps, with a flexible approach to selecting the best tools, frameworks, and architectures to meet specific project needs and enhance product quality.
  • Project Management Proficiency: Demonstrated ability to lead multiple, concurrent projects efficiently, prioritizing and allocating resources to meet critical timelines and organizational goals.
